forgot had sent this, we ended up doing this trip. the route from madrid to salamanca was pretty boring in the end, secondary roads and quite cold. however from Salamanca to seville it was great. we followed the ruta de la plata, although going backwards, and it is amazing, a lot of the middle of nowhere in spain reminds me of australia, super hot and barren rocky plains. and then into forests. the other problem is that all rivers run west, so heading south means you constantly climb and descend, spain is by no means a flat place. thankfully i bought a gsm before going, this would have been impossible with out it, the gps points are freely available on the rutadelaplata website, and also on google maps. this is part of what made it so much more fun, no spending hours reading maps all the time. i must also recommend www.bravobike.com we hired our bikes through them, they are based in madrid, but also do tours in switzerland. they were super helpful, and we borrowed trek bikes from them for 90euros a week each. there was a 50 euro return charge to cover the courier that picked them up in seville and returned them to him in madrid. the guys name is Kaspar and he has a good looking dutch girl working with him, seeing her alone made the hire worth while this was our third tour, we do one every year, prev we did vienna to prague, and then vienna to trieste, however this tour in spain was by far the best so far. regards blair
