hi everyone. i'm looking for some advice on which tent i should be looking to buy for a cycle touring trip from the uk to egypt (starting in september). i'm sure this is a question that's been asked many times before and i anticipate to be traveling approximately 4500 miles so i guess the lighter the better. however i was wandering whether people tend to opt for a tent with a large porch area for bike storage and peace of mind over night or whether they leave bikes (to their fate) outside overnight. i will be mostly traveling by myself but expect to be joined by friends for certain stages. i'm considering a terra nova laserlarge 3 which comes in at around 2.3kg and has ample storage for a bike - but is this just too heavy? any suggestions much appreciated

I would suggest That you look at the coleman's viper 1 person tent or something simalar to they are around 2.1kg in weight & ideal for long trips.

I like the Hilleberg tents. The Nallo GT or Namadj GT are fantastic. I think some of the larger ones have space inside the porch for your bike. They are expensive, but pitch very fast and are really well made. Things like the washing line across the inner make life easier and they are easy to pack even with the footprint attached. It is really helpful being able to pitch inner and fly together. They cope with snow and ice with no problems as well .

Hi, i'm swlling my Terra Nova Voyager Superlite. 1.7kg two-manner. i'd planned to use that on my trip from china back to the UK (bike was stolen after a week and a half!!!) for myself - i get a bit claustrphobic. it's on ebay right now, without reserve cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200431662737&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT but i'll listen to offers my bike was nicked from a guesthouse btw.. there are ways you could attach the bike to the outside of a tent for security
