Hi

Just completed a tour of UK, France and North Italy which has been my first big trip. Thought I'd comment on the difference in road conditions in the three countries. Britain could learn a lot from the French - all roads major roads, even in the country side, have a white line painted half a meter indented in to the tarmac. They should just write on it "Cycle touring lane". Drivers are kind and road signs are, generally, OK.
Touring in Italy, on the other hand, is like an extreme sport! A short segment of my trip involved a traverse of the Alps, over the Col de Tende. This actually took me from France, in to Italy and back in to France for a further 30Kms. You can actually see the border by the black 'n' White difference in the road conditions.
