After an absence of 7 years I have got the trusty old cycle out of the shed, cleaned and serviced it and started cycling at weekends. Usually go out each Saturday and Sunday and do between 30 and 50 miles each day. The bike is a Real Eco 21 speed Touring Cycle which is about 10 years old and still in good condition. I have always fancied a cycle touring holiday and I am planning one for the summer. I have narrowed down the posibilities to either the new Forest or Newquay. The idea being to take the train as far as possible and then Cycle to my destination and use the cycle as my transport for the week. Reason for the choosing either Cornwall or New Forest is even if the weather isn't great there is still life and things to do I have front and rear panniers and rear rack so hopefully have enough storage capacity. now question is Tent. I have been looking on line and whilst there will be only me using it I want something with a bit of space, which will take all my gear and have a seperate front area. I have looked at several and whilst I appreciate that weight is al important I don't really know what weight to go for. As an example I have seen one which weighs in at 3.9 kg ( bit small) whilst another is weighing 6.5kg but would let me store the bike in the front of the tent. Question is - would 6.5kg be a bit heavy to be carrying on the bike

Hi Deltic
I have used the Vango Tempest 200 for a couple of years gives me all the room I need and storage in the front. Its very dry reasonably light and packs up small and only takes about 5 mins to erect. I have been around Europe and the UK with this tent and it is still going strong. Hope that helps

Have ended up getting a Vango Spirit 200+ found 2008 models for £180, ordered one and ended up with a 2009 model for same price as they had sold all 2008 stock, haven't used it yet but at 2.8kg it is light weight and big enough for me on my own. ordered a footprint at the same time. Looking forward to my 1st weekend away

I also just bought a vango spirit 200 + for £175 dark green. Hoping to use for 2 person camping. But not so easy to pitch by one person in wild camping conditions, and the footprint is so big!! For solo cycle touring/wild camping I have a Vaude Taurus Ultralite 1.8kg (bought for £176 but you may be able to find cheaper) and great for 2 small people (or 1 with plenty of room for gear). I am off to Scotland for a tour of the North West from south Skye, round Applecross, then to the Rubha Reidh lighthouse, then to Loch Broom, Ullapool, Summer Isles and further then East to take a train back home. I'll be on the sleeper as I live in Cambridge. I'd welcome any recommendations for must see/stay camp spots, wid ot other.
