Hi there, I haven't cycled in Holland but I was thinking of doing the Frisian Islands so I purchased " The rough guide to The Netherlands" and its a very good guide .The Frisian Islands section was wrritten with cycling in mind by Cass Gilbert and Laura Stone. You could also visit this very good touring WebSite www.cycletourer.co.uk/ it has a lot of info on Holland. All the best and good cycling Jean- Pierre

Geoff, I am planning on going over there in May to cycle vision at Zandvort, then spending a week cycling around and back to the port. Another good site is cycling around the world, Netherlands pageI got a lot of info about cycle routes and the maps from there. The plan is to get the ferry from Harwich (return seems to be about £80) cycle up the coast, weekend at the event, then riding about 60 mile a day round and through Zwolle, Arnhem, Nijmegen, Utrecht and back to the port. I will be camping as there seems to be a lot of campsites/ green campsites there. Rich.

I looked at the Hull prices and figured out that it would probably be cheaper to get a train from Lancaster to Dover, Ferry to Calais and then a train uo to Hollandlands! As a single passenger they wanted about £225-00 for the return trip if I read it right! Annoying thing is that, before I got into cycling, I actually lived in Harwich (Hells waiting room) for a year or so.

I'm thinking of getting the overnight ferry so I have all day to do it, but as it is only about 65km(40m) taking my time it should only take about 4 hrs. Also it will be an easy day compared to the 100m ride to Harwich the day before ;D

In the Netherlands you can buy the 'fiets..ideeen kaart' which shows all the long distant and shorter routes - cost about 3EUR. The LF routes include LF1 (Boulogne - Den Helder). I would consider from Friesland LF14 and 4 as the countryside is best there on the east. Do go through the Verluwe National Park. Try www.fietsplatform.nl
