HI all, Ok, here's the deal. I'm an Australian guy (31) whose fairly new to cycle touring, and have got an idea for a challenge. Colloquially I am calling it the Dunvegan to Dover Dash, and it's just that - a ride from Dunvegan Castle (Isle of Skye) to Dover Castle (Kent), following the most direct route. At this stage I'm hoping to do this ride in August-September of this year, and am in the process of researching the route (not sure of exact distance yet) and all the options for accommodation along the way (camping, hostels etc). As much as possible I'm hoping to ride on Sustrans tracks to keep off the main roads. I have a reasonably good knowledge of the geography of Britain, and have an old A-Z and Sustrans map for trip planning. So far there's no one I know who is keen (or crazy) enough to contemplate joining me, so I thought I'd throw it open to your cycling community. If there is anyone who is interested in doing some or all of this one, feel free to get in touch. I've picked August-September, as this seems to be the ideal time to complete the trip (and it's when I'll have enough leave to make the trip over from Australia). Also, if anyone has any tips or hints for me, I'm all ears! I'm particularly keen to hear about: - other maps that might be helpful - camping on the western side of Scotland - preveiling winds at that time of the year - whether to go north-south or south-north) - suitability of various A and B roads for touring - whether you think I'm going a bit nutty with this idea!! Look forward to reading your posts! Cheers, Matt
